I think Guinness is the only drink I think seems better in a Guinness glass, I appreciate it is a psychological barrier.

I once got served a pint of Guinness in a Stella goblet glass and that tasted and looked like shite.

One thing to think about for those individuals who consume their chosen beverage direct from the can, often these cans stand outside prior to being put in the pub.

Rats urinate on them and all manner of other detritus falls on the rim of the can.

Enjoy!

1. Not many people buy a can when they’re at a pub?
2. Wouldn’t the rat urine problem occur no matter how the drink is consumed? Most non-perishable food packages could be left outside anywhere?

I don't think it tastes better just that it is very sloppy service for a pub to serve a beer in a wrong branded glass. If they can't get the basics like that right then what else are they doing wrong?

There’s actually a reason for that.

I think we’re more talking about drinking at home here.

In which case I don't care. I don't have many branded glasses at home (most of them nicked) but I would drink anything out of them.

it doesn't make a difference. it's just visual marketing so it's recognisable to see what people are drinking

I had some belters with Guinness last season in the Cooper Rose. Every matchday it became a recurring theme where I’d send a photo to the lads just to share the disgust, always seemed like the third pint for some reason was served in a random glass. Worst one was probably served in one of these new Kronenbourg glasses:

I can see that the shape can have some effect with beers which are designed to have a large head but no shape or branding of glass is going to make Fosters taste good.

I only ever sup direct from the can if I'm drinking on the streets. No crushing when disposing of.

Whilst it doesn't make a difference taste wise I think it's a sign of a better bar/pub and can play with the mind. Just thinking of Guinness in a John Smiths glass *shudder*.

Aye, it quickly escalated from drinking cans in the house to drinking €20 pints of 12% Belgian beers in Ghent.

I also spoke to someone who works at Coors brewery and he reckons that Carling glasses have a particular shape to do something to the flow when it’s poured. I don’t tend to drink it but I’ll stare into the bottom of a glass when I’m next in a local knacker pub.

Hold your horses though, there's even more features that'll please the discerning lager drinker. An etched, nucleated base assists with the condition of the beer by encouraging effervescence and helping to keep the head intact! Finally, these pint pots are toughened (just like most Carling drinkers) to help protect against the inevitable knocks and scuffs that occur in busy bars.

Shape does make a difference to some drinks tbf. Nothing makes a difference with Carling. It's just shite.

Bend it around a rasher of bacon and you could have a beer-can sandwich

Guinness pint glasses are quite nice TBF not that I’m sad and boring enough to rate pint glasses. I do wear cardigans though and drive a Volvo.

Those who sup beer direct from the can - are in danger of contracting Weil's disease (also known as Leptospirosis) if they don't clean the ring-pull aperture!
(Similarly for bottled beer - clean the neck of the bottle)

Loads of bars now serve craft ales in cans. Fine if your drink is Carling but if you like something like Northern Monk you may find it comes in a can.
